Grief, sorrow, and rising political tensions marred the funeral of Amos Dusabe, a 35-year-old teacher at Kanaba Secondary School, whose untimely death has sent shockwaves across Bufumbira East Constituency in Kisoro District.

Dusabe, a resident of Karuzogero Cell in Chahafi Town Council, is believed to have committed suicide on Sunday, June 29, after attending prayers at Nyabune Church of Uganda. He was found hanging in his bedroom.

His wife, Asiimwe Flavia, shared emotional remarks at the burial, revealing that in the days leading up to his death, Amos had been entangled in troubling interactions with a group allegedly aligned to a local political aspirant.

“The day before he died, Amos received a phone call from five individuals believed to be supporters of a certain candidate. On Sunday morning, they called again. I believe the political pressure weighed heavily on him,” Asiimwe recounted the Kigezi Region tearfully.
The tragedy has cast a spotlight on the increasingly hostile political environment in Bufumbira East.
