Summary:

  • The construction work commenced in April this year.

KISORO: Authorities in Kisoro District have attributed the delayed construction of the 2.093 billion shillings Kanyamateke Bridge in Busanza Sub County to heavy rainfall and delays in receiving construction materials.

The construction work commenced in April this year. However, according to the site engineer, Moses Turyatunga, they faced significant challenges due to heavy rainfall and delays in materials, especially during April and May 2024. The bridge is crucial for residents who need it for transportation and to move their goods to the markets in Busanza and Kisoro town.

Turyatunga noted that water was diverted from its original course to ease the construction work. He mentioned that 70% of the workers are residents of Busanza Sub County, who are benefiting from the construction project. He is optimistic that by the middle of August, people will be able to start using the bridge, as they are awaiting fire cement to begin casting concrete early next week.
