WAKISO: Supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a civic organization led by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, have endorsed the candidacy of Daniel Kananura Damazo for Kira Municipality.
The seat is currently held by Honorable Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda.
During a stakeholders’ consultative meeting at Ruts Café and Lounge in Namugongo, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, Kananura, a seasoned businessman and politician, emphasized the need for transformative leadership in the area.

He called for unity among NRM and PLU members to address the municipality’s challenges effectively.
“We need to unite as members of the NRM and PLU in Kira Municipality. Let us work as a team to win. We are a strong party, and as leaders, we should set an example. I am confident that even the opposition will support us because Ugandans now prioritize development and recognize the government’s commitment to transforming this country,” Kananura stated.
NRM’s Legacy and Future Vision
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Kananura praised the NRM for steering Uganda through turbulent times, noting that the party has been “tried, tested, and found worthy of continued leadership.”
He highlighted the government’s collaboration with PLU to create wealth, generate jobs, improve education and healthcare, ensure justice, and promote economic and political integration.
“The task of securing Uganda’s future is not one to gamble with. It requires lifelong commitment, unending sacrifice, and extensive experience. The NRM and PLU are well-positioned to handle this sacred responsibility,” Kananura added.
Stakeholders Raise Concerns
The meeting also provided a platform for stakeholders to voice their concerns about the challenges facing Kira Municipality.
Key issues included rapid urbanization, poor infrastructure, waste management, environmental degradation, unemployment, and inadequate water quality.
While acknowledging the limited legislative and oversight role of Members of Parliament, stakeholders emphasized the need for leaders who can lobby effectively with both the government and the private sector to bring development to Kira.
“Kira needs leaders who can bridge the gap between the government and communities. We need someone who can collaborate with various stakeholders to transform the area,” one participant noted.
