Police in the Kigezi Sub-region have cautioned both voters and candidates against engaging in electoral violence, urging them to exercise their democratic rights responsibly ahead of tomorrow’s elections for Sub-County, Town Council and Municipal Division Chairpersons, Directly Elected Councilors, and Women Councilors.
The Electoral Commission has guided that voting will take place at all gazetted polling stations, and designated electoral college venues where applicable, from 7:00am to 4:00pm, after which counting and declaration of results will be conducted in line with the law.
Speaking ahead of the polls, Kigezi region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate said the region has so far registered calm and cooperation during the Presidential, Parliamentary and other electoral exercises, but stressed that the final phase requires continued respect for electoral laws and procedures.
Maate called on electorates and candidates to remain vigilant, peaceful and law-abiding, noting that free, fair and credible elections can only be achieved through collective responsibility.
He further assured the public that Police, together with other security agencies, remain fully deployed across the sub-region to prevent disruptions and ensure the safety and integrity of the electoral process.
