The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has confirmed the recovery of the previously missing Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) Integrated Science scripts for candidates of Bamure Primary School in Koboko District, clearing the way for their marking and grading.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, UNEB Principal Public Relations Officer, explained that the scripts of 34 candidates were initially reported missing during routine quality control checks conducted ahead of the release of PLE results.
As a precautionary measure, the affected learners were temporarily awarded an “X” grade while an extensive search was carried out at UNEB marking centres and in coordination with the school.
Musamba revealed that the investigation led to the discovery of a sealed envelope containing the scripts, found intact in a lockable box used for UNEB materials in the office of the school’s headmaster.
“For transparency and verification, the envelope was first handed over to Koboko Central Police Station, which confirmed that it had not been tampered with”. She said.
According to her, the recovered scripts have since been officially handed over to UNEB, and examiners have been invited to proceed with marking and subsequent grading of the candidates.
She reassured parents, candidates of Bamure Primary School, and all stakeholders that the marking process will be completed expeditiously to ensure the learners are graded in time for the selection and placement exercise.
