The Assistant Financial Administrator for Kabale Catholic Diocese, Rev Fr Davis Keinamura, has asked Christians to reflect on the true nature of Jesus’ kingship, rooted in love, mercy, and selfless sacrifice rather than earthly power.
Preaching during the Climax Mass of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) 2025 at Christ the King Catholic Parish in Kabale Municipality on Sunday, Rev Fr Keinamura drew his message from Luke 23:35-43, noting that Jesus reigns from the cross, revealing true glory through suffering for the sake of others.
He explained that Jesus’ mercy toward the repentant thief offers a powerful lesson on humility and faith. Unlike worldly rulers who assert power over others, he said, Jesus demonstrates authority through forgiveness and compassion.
“The penitent thief, who humbly acknowledged his sins and sought mercy, offers a model for believers, showing that it is never too late to turn to God, even at the end of life,” Fr Keinamura said, adding that faith often grows out of personal need rather than spectacular miracles.
He noted that the thief’s steadfast belief, even as soldiers and fellow criminals mocked Jesus, shows the courage required to uphold faith under ridicule.
He urged Christians to embrace humility, repentance and trust in Christ’s saving power as they navigate life’s challenges.
Speaking at the same Mass, Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Nicholas Thaddeus Kamara, commended the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt Rev Callist Rubaramira, for decentralizing BAAF activities to the parish level.
He appealed to political candidates in Kabale to conduct peaceful and respectful campaigns, saying this is the only way to achieve impactful and harmonious elections.
The Ndorwa West County NRM flag bearer, Hon. Eliab Naturinda Mporera, praised Bishop Rubaramira for championing financial institutions such as Centenary Bank, which he said has empowered Ugandans to save, invest and uplift their families, significantly contributing to poverty reduction across the country.
Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira, who served as guest of honour, urged residents to embrace peace, unity and development as pillars for transforming their communities.
Meanwhile, the Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish, Rev Fr Fred Birungi, revealed that this year’s BAAF was decentralized to the parish level.
He said Christ the King Catholic Parish dedicated its collections toward constructing a girls’ dormitory and a multipurpose building at Christ the King Town View Secondary School in Rutoma, at an estimated cost of Shs 740 million.
By the end of the event, the parish had raised a total of Shs 126 million in cash and pledges, marking a major step toward the construction of the dormitory and multipurpose hall.
Fr Birungi commended parishioners for their generosity, resilience and commitment to parish development, noting that the funds raised will enable the parish to immediately begin one of the two projects once the school term ends and learners break off for holidays.
He expressed optimism that with continued sacrifice and unity, the remaining funds will be raised to ensure both the dormitory and main hall are completed as planned.
