KABALE: The Kabale District Speaker, Flavia Nyinakiiza Kanagyizi, has threatened to close the district council washrooms and toilets due to poor hygiene.
While presiding over the district council session on Thursday, Speaker Nyinakiiza expressed her frustration, not only about the unhygienic state of the washrooms and toilets but also about the overall cleanliness of the district.
She revealed that they felt deeply embarrassed when they hosted a delegation from the Kigezi sub-region, who were preparing for the recently concluded visit by President Museveni, only to find the district in an unkempt state, with tall grass growing unchecked.

Nyinakiiza further noted that the sanitation issues extend beyond the council hall to the District Education Officer’s office block. She mentioned that she has personally participated in cleaning these offices, despite there being designated staff responsible for the task.
She urged the clerk to the council to issue warnings to individuals who use the council hall for meetings, instructing them to bring their own dustbins to avoid leaving the place in a mess.
The speaker lamented that she has, on multiple occasions, cleaned her own office and even poured water to neutralize the stench from the toilets, as if the district had no office attendants.
She warned that unless immediate action is taken, she and the clerk to the council will lock all the buildings, restricting access to the toilets to only themselves.
“I was elected to be a speaker, not a cleaner,” Nyinakiiza asserted. “You can call me a spitting cobra, a puff adder, or a python, but these names only make me stronger in delivering my duties.”
