According to the university’s Head of Communication, Branding, and Marketing, Godfrey Joseph Sempungu, the ceremony will be presided over by the newly appointed Chancellor, Hon. Canon Mathew Rukikaire.
Out of the 1,669 graduands, 151 will receive master’s degrees, 1,001 bachelor’s degrees, 41 postgraduate diplomas, 319 diplomas, 7 PhDs, 1 certificate, and 149 higher education bridging certificates.
Among the PhD graduands, five specialized in Business Administration, while two completed their studies in Public Administration and Management.
This marks the second cohort of PhD holders to graduate from Kabale University, following the inaugural group of two last year.
Canon Rukikaire was appointed Chancellor on October 17, 2025, by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, under Section 30(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, following a recommendation from the Kabale University Council. He will serve a four-year term, effective from the date he assumes office.
In his appointment instrument, President Museveni stated:
“I, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, do hereby appoint Hon. Canon Mathew Rukikaire as Chancellor, Kabale University, for a period of four years with effect from the date of assumption of duty.”
Canon Rukikaire becomes the second Chancellor of Kabale University since it attained public university status. He succeeds Prof. Mondo Kagonyera, whose term has just ended in accordance with the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001, which provides for a four-year renewable term.
As Chancellor, Canon Rukikaire is expected to offer visionary leadership in advancing Kabale University’s mission of academic excellence, research innovation, and community engagement.
Kabale University was established in 2002, born from the Kigezi Development Association’s vision conceived in 1995.
It transitioned from a private to a public university in 2015, following its chartering in 2014 and accreditation by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE).
