Authorities at St. Theresa Girls Vocational School in Kabale Municipality have launched a fundraising drive to raise Shs 150 million for the purchase of a school motor vehicle to address transportation challenges, especially during emergencies.
Speaking during the school’s Patron Saint Day celebrations on Saturday, Headteacher Sr. Sophia Natuhwera said the lack of a vehicle poses a major risk.
“The motor vehicle will not be a luxury but a necessity for responding to emergencies and easing our operations,” Sr. Natuhwera emphasized.
The Patron Saint Day is celebrated annually together with St. Maria Theresa Primary School, with both institutions sharing the same patron saint, St. Theresa of the Child Jesus.
During the event, Sr. Natuhwera urged parents to promote gender equality in their homes and encouraged learners to emulate St. Theresa’s humility, discipline, and dedication.
Calls for Responsible Parenting and Discipline
PTA Chairperson Pius Rwakimari applauded the strong bond between parents, teachers and students but cautioned parents to monitor their children’s use of mobile phones and gadgets. He also called for modest dressing among learners both at school and at home.
Speaking on behalf of the Board of Governors, Vice Chairperson Hon. Mackline Batware thanked parents for entrusting their children to the school and rallied them to support the vehicle fundraising campaign generously.
Leaders Inspire Girls to Dream Big
Kabale District Woman MP Hon. Catherine Ndamira Atwakiire encouraged students to dream big and work hard to achieve their goals. She praised the staff for their dedication and advised parents to invest in income-generating projects.
“Tomorrow, you will be the guests of honor at similar functions,” she reminded them.
Guest of Honor Ms. Mable Tumuheise Orishaba, Director of Kabale Municipal Development Forum, contributed Shs 3 million toward the vehicle drive. She urged the girls to protect their dignity and remain focused on success.
Spiritual Guidance and Solidarity with Teachers
Delivering the homily, Rev. Fr. Christmas, Parish Priest of Rushoroza Cathedral and school director, emphasized equality for all before God and called for respect toward all workers. His message came just a day after UNATU suspended its month-long strike for further dialogue with government.
He urged students to remain prayerful, disciplined and respectful, reminding parents that “the girl child requires special attention and guidance.”
Over Shs 25 Million Raised
The event raised over Shs 25 million in cash and pledges toward the vehicle fund.
Located on Rushoroza Hill in Kabale Diocese, St. Theresa Girls Vocational School provides holistic education founded on Catholic values, where prayer and discipline are central to nurturing responsible citizens.
