KABALE: The First Vice Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, has warned party leaders in Kigezi Sub region against indulging in intrigue and internal politics during the upcoming party primaries. Kigongo emphasized that such practices undermine the unity and strength of the NRM.
Speaking on Thursday at Rushoroza Pastoral Center in Kabale Municipality, Kigongo addressed NRM District Executive Committee members from the Kigezi region. He was also the Chief Guest at the commissioning of data clerks who have spent three weeks digitizing data from the region’s yellow books.
Kigongo lamented the persistent issue of some district leaders supporting opposition or independent candidates instead of NRM flag bearers due to personal interests. He highlighted how these actions foster divisions among party supporters, warning that this trend could weaken the party’s cohesion and effectiveness.
“The politics of intrigue and personal agendas must stop. Party leaders must work together to strengthen the NRM,” Kigongo stated.
He further urged leaders to rely on the officially registered NRM supporters when organizing elections and campaigns. Kigongo expressed concern over reports of discrepancies in voter turnout, where the number of votes cast at some polling stations exceeds the registered voters.
Kigongo condemned the rising tide of sectarianism in the Kigezi region, cautioning that it could erode the foundational values of the NRM.
