To mobilize funds, they have organized the much-anticipated Kigezi Marathon on November 4, 2023, aiming to unite the community in a collective effort to support expectant mothers.
Sam Kanyamukiza, the Organizing Chairperson, states that the marathon’s main goal is to raise funds for the UGX 350 million ambulance. Two months ago, health professionals in Kigezi, led by Dr. Abdon Birungi, Chairperson of District Health Officers in the six districts, appealed to the Ministry of Health for an ambulance allocation to each Health Center IV. This request aims to address challenges of patient inaccessibility, particularly in remote areas within the region.
Dr. Birungi, also the District Health Officer for Rubanda, stressed that most Health Center IV facilities rely on ambulances stationed at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, facing difficulties in providing timely services to certain remote areas.
