A section of parliamentary aspirants in Kisoro District has raised alarm over the rising levels of impunity and the commercialization of elections, warning that these practices could lead to the election of incompetent leaders and ultimately undermine effective service delivery in the district.
The concerns come as the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) prepares for its primary elections scheduled for July 16, 2025, with joint campaign activities expected to commence on Tuesday next week.
Speaking at a press conference held at Bamboo Gardens on Thursday, Bufumbira South Member of Parliament aspirant, Derrick Kwiringira, strongly condemned what he termed as growing political impunity. He criticized the reported removal of opponents’ campaign signposts by hired agents, attributing such acts to the increasing monetization of the electoral process.

The Kisoro Municipality parliamentary aspirant, Sam Byibesho noted that the increasing commercialization of politics has driven some candidates to make massive financial investments in campaigns, often leading to frustration when such efforts do not translate into electoral support.
Byibesho warned that such disillusionment can negatively affect service delivery, as some leaders become detached from the electorate once in office.
He urged fellow aspirants to maintain composure and demonstrate genuine leadership, particularly during politically charged moments.
