KISORO: Residents of Kisoro District have expressed outrage at Members of Parliament for accepting a Shs100 million cash bonanza, which they argue could have been better utilized to improve social services across the country.

The funds, drawn from a Shs4 trillion supplementary budget, were reportedly intended to mobilize constituents in support of government programs. Each MP is said to have received Shs100 million. However, residents claim the money is being diverted for personal gain rather than addressing critical needs at the district level.

Many residents suggest the funds could have been more effectively allocated to essential services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.

Despite the public backlash, President Yoweri Museveni confirmed that each MP did, in fact, receive Shs100 million through classified funding just days after Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa had dismissed the reports as “street talk.”

In a statement issued Friday, the President defended the allocation, stating the money was used to “promote activities that help in defeating enemy schemes in Uganda” and served a patriotic purpose.

“Regarding the classified funds, they have two purposes: to buy classified equipment and also to promote activities that help in defeating the enemy schemes in Uganda and keep the peace of the People of Uganda,” said President Museveni.
