For the past week, the power supply has been inconsistent, disrupting essential operations. The most affected businesses include hotels, petrol stations, welding workshops, and health facilities. Many business owners have resorted to using generators, but they find the cost unsustainable, severely impacting their daily earnings.
Denis Hakiza, a welder, Jackson Samvura, the director of Ebenezer Computer Services, and Wigan Tahigwa, the manager of Champs Petrol Station, say that outages have affected them financially.
They said that power outages have caused lost productivity, destroyed equipment, spoiled perishable goods and increased security risks whereby security systems have been disabled, enabling criminals to take advantage of the darkness with increased incidents of theft and burglary.

The UMEME manager for Kisoro District declined to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, the Kisoro Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Hajji Badru Ssebyala, has urged the responsible authorities to address the issue urgently. He acknowledged that the outages pose a security threat, as criminals exploit the darkness to commit crimes.
However, he reassured residents that Kisoro District will soon be connected to the recently commissioned Rubanda power station, which is expected to improve electricity supply.
