The Mbarara City probation office is grappling with the care of two young children left orphaned after the brutal murder of their mother, 42-year-old Scovia Kyomugisha, and her 3-year-old daughter, Gift Amumpaire.
The shocking incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Alliance Trading Centre, Kakoba Central Cell, Kakoba Ward in Mbarara City, where unknown assailants fatally stabbed the victims.
Henry Mushabe, the Senior Probation Officer for Mbarara City, confirmed that the two surviving children, 10-year-old Aminet Nyamwiza and 1-year-and-5-month-old Junior Evenitious, are now under the custody of the probation office.
Mushabe revealed that the children had been solely under their mother’s care and have no knowledge of their father’s whereabouts.
With no immediate relatives able to take them in, the probation office is appealing to the public and well-wishers for support to ensure the children receive shelter, care, and emotional healing during this difficult time.
