Police in Kisoro District have reported a fatal road crash that claimed the life of a 30-year-old man and left another person injured in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, says that the accident occurred at around 12:50 a.m. on April 30, 2026, at Mutolere along the Mutolere Hospital road. The crash involved two motorcycles, a red Bajaj Boxer (registration number UMA 623HL) and a blue Yamaha YBR (registration number UDY 197D).
According to Maate, Preliminary findings indicate that the Yamaha motorcycle, ridden by Hakizimana Martin, was traveling from Kisoro Town towards Mutolere Hospital when it collided head-on with the Bajaj Boxer, which was being ridden by Rukundo Justus, a resident of Kagorogoro Village in Kanaba Sub-county. Rukundo died on the spot, while Hakizimana sustained injuries and was rushed to Mutolere Hospital for treatment.
He said that traffic police visited and documented the scene, and the deceased’s body was later conveyed to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. He revealed that both motorcycles involved in the crash have been impounded at Kisoro Central Police Station pending inspection.
In a related incident, police also reported a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of an unidentified male adult pedestrian along the Kabale–Kisoro highway at Shozi Village. Maate noted that the body was recovered and taken to Kisoro Hospital mortuary. He called upon anyone with a missing relative to come forward for identification and burial arrangements.
He asked road users to exercise caution, especially during night hours, as investigations into both incidents continue.
