KABALE: The Minister for Information Communication Technology and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has condemned the improper use of social media by Ugandans to insult and spread false information.
While addressing the 14th Communications Consumer Parliament organized by the Uganda Communications Commission at the National Teachers College in Kabale District on Thursday, Minister Baryomunsi stated that he has received numerous social media complaints from some Members of Parliament about their identities being tarnished.
Minister Baryomunsi warned that through the Uganda Communication Commission, the Ministry of Information Communication Technology and National Guidance has technology that can trace the source of false information.
He mentioned that the Ministry, through the Uganda Communications Commission, is going to develop advanced technology to control and regulate the use of social media.
He also highlighted that the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance is working to build capacity within the country in terms of personnel and technology to protect Ugandans in the areas of cyber security and cyber-crimes.
