Tensions escalated on Monday during a meeting convened at the school by Kabale Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Godfrey Nyakahuma and Acting District Education Officer (DEO) Moses Bwengye Tumwijukye to address the growing unrest.

During the meeting, nine pupils reportedly began exhibiting unusual behavior, including barking like dogs, crawling on their stomachs, and screaming. According to eyewitnesses, some pupils mentioned Expedito’s name, claiming he had “sacrificed” them.

This alarming scene further enraged the community, prompting a violent mob to march to Expedito’s home. They set fire to four houses, destroyed his plantation, and killed several of his animals. A reporter witnessed the incident firsthand.

Addressing the crowd, RDC Nyakahuma announced that Expedito would be transferred and instructed to report to Kabale Police Station for preventive detention. He condemned the destruction of property and promised a thorough investigation.

“All individuals involved in the attack will be brought to justice. Let’s avoid mob justice and respect the rule of law,” he said.

Acting DEO Bwengye directed parents to return their children to school starting Tuesday, June 10, 2025. He instructed the Head Teacher to resume normal school operations and called on local church leaders to continue praying for the school. He also ordered another teacher, Doreen Nayebare, accused of collaborating with Expedito, to stay away from the school pending investigations.

Maziba Sub-County Chairperson Onesmus Mutungi advised security agencies to ensure Expedito leaves the area temporarily for his own safety.

School Head Teacher Tophil Ngabirano said his efforts to address the matter with Expedito were unsuccessful, as the teacher denied all allegations. Ngabirano noted that the issue began in the first term, during a celebration of academic performance.

At the gathering, a pupil who had assisted in slaughtering a chicken began behaving like one, while others mimicked the goat that had also been slaughtered.
