More than 40,000 pilgrims from within and outside Kabale Diocese have flocked to Our Lady of Good Shepherd – Rushoroza Cathedral grounds in Kabale Municipality for the 14th annual Eucharistic Congress.
The four-day spiritual event, organized under the theme “I am the Bread of Life” (John 6:48), seeks to deepen the understanding of the Eucharist among Catholics.
Rev. Fr. Boniface Barisigara, the Spiritual Director of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement in Kabale Diocese, emphasized that the Eucharist is at the very center of Christian faith.
“This congress is to help Catholics understand more about the Eucharist because it is the center of our faith. Jesus said, ‘I am the Bread of Life,’ and this bread energizes us both spiritually and physically,” Rev. Fr. Barisigara said on Wednesday evening.

He explained that the Eucharist represents Christ fully, both divine and human and called on Catholics to revere it with deep respect.
“Christ is the Lord of our lives, not only spiritually but also physically. In the Eucharist, Jesus is fully present. It is not just partaking, but receiving Christ himself,” he noted.
The congress will feature a series of sessions designed to help Christians fully grasp the meaning of the Eucharist, its significance in Mass, and the reverence it deserves.

Fr. Barisigara also urged pilgrims to draw inspiration from the Jubilee Year theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” and to cultivate a strong desire for the Eucharist in their daily lives.
