The Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt Rev Callist Rubaramira, has called on Christians across the diocese to embrace humility, service, and steadfast faith as they commemorate Palm Sunday and prepare for the Easter season.

Bishop Rubaramira made the call while flagging off a Palm Sunday procession and blessing palms ahead of Mass at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral, held at St Maria Theresa Rushoroza Primary School in the Southern Division of Kabale Municipality.

Bishop Rubaramira reminded Christians that Palm Sunday marks the moment believers welcome Jesus as a humble king, urging them to emulate Christ’s servant leadership in their daily lives.

He explained that Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem riding on a donkey symbolized a kingdom founded on peace, humility, and service rather than power and domination. The Bishop added that Palm Sunday connects Christians to the suffering of Christ on Good Friday and His resurrection on Easter Sunday, calling on them to remain hopeful despite life’s challenges.

During the Mass at Rushoroza Cathedral Parish, Bishop Rubaramira also commissioned 207 catechists and nuns as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion in a move aimed at strengthening pastoral care within the diocese. The newly commissioned ministers had completed a week-long spiritual formation and training that began on March 25, preparing them for their role in serving the Church. He urged them to carry out their duties with reverence, humility, and unwavering commitment, emphasizing unity and love in their service as they safeguard the sanctity of the Body and Blood of Christ.

At Christ the King Catholic Church Parish in Kabale Town, Curate Rev Fr Nelson Agaba also urged Christians to use the period for deep reflection and renewal of faith. He described Holy Week as a special time for believers to strengthen their salvation and reflect on the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Fr Agaba referenced Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, noting that the same crowd that welcomed Him later turned against Him, a reminder of the inconsistency that can exist in human faith. He encouraged Christians to walk with Jesus on His journey to the cross, emphasizing that the day’s readings highlight Christ’s love and sacrifice for humanity.
