KIBUKU: During a tour highlighting the tangible impact of the Parish Development Model (PDM) on rural households, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni praised Ms. Florence Nabutono, LC1 Chairperson of Bukoda Cell in Kasasira Town Council, Kibuku District, for her inspiring journey in wealth creation.
As part of his ongoing zonal tour to assess the performance of the PDM in the Bukedi Subregion, President Museveni expressed admiration for the development of Ms. Nabutono’s homestead. He commended her for embracing the government’s message of self-driven wealth creation and setting a powerful example for the community.
President Museveni urged Ugandans to adopt a similar entrepreneurial mindset, stressing that poverty should not exist in a resource-rich country like Uganda.
He emphasized that with determination and practical action, every Ugandan has the potential to transform their lives.
“I want to congratulate the family of Nabutono for waking up and taking advantage of our advice and support. We have been promoting this since 1996, but many people, especially leaders, were not taking it up and educating others on how to escape poverty,” he said.
“This area, like all of Uganda, is rich. Poverty here is due to ignorance, not a lack of resources. I’m glad to see you are gradually improving,” the President added.
Ms. Nabutono began her farming business with just 1 million Ugandan shillings from her Parish PDM SACCO, using it to purchase a pig that soon multiplied.
By selling some of the piglets, she was able to pay her children’s school fees and diversify her farm with poultry. Impressed by her achievements, President Museveni awarded her an additional 10 million Ugandan shillings to purchase dairy cows, advising her to buy both a lactating cow and one that is expecting. This would enable her to support her family while generating additional income through milk sales.
The President also proposed establishing feed-chopping machines at the sub-county level in Kibuku District to support livestock farmers, directing Vice President Jessica Alupo to find a suitable location for the facility.
Ms. Nabutono expressed her gratitude to the President, sharing how the PDM has empowered her to uplift her family. She noted her intention to expand into dairy farming, highlighting the challenges in securing animal feeds, which remain a hurdle for many farmers.
The event was attended by Vice President Jessica Alupo, ministers, Members of Parliament, and local leaders, who applauded Ms. Nabutono’s success as a testament to the transformative potential of the Parish Development Model.
