He made the remarks while presiding over a graduation thanksgiving Mass held on Thursday evening, October 30, 2025, at the university’s Teaching Facility Level One organized by the Kabale University Catholic Community on the eve of the university’s 10th Graduation Ceremony.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Byarugaba congratulated the graduand’s for successfully completing their academic journey, describing it as a great milestone achieved through God’s grace. He encouraged them to remain prayerful and to remember those still pursuing their studies.
“Do not be the darkness of the world but its light,” he said, reminding them that true success is measured by how much they uplift others and positively impact their communities.
Fr. Byarugaba urged the graduates to embrace creativity and hard work to thrive in today’s competitive world. He cautioned them against complacency and dependence, emphasizing that they should use their skills to create opportunities that make their parents and guardians proud.
He also expressed concern about the increasing number of university students who die before completing their studies, calling on students to cherish life and remain grateful to God for the gift of survival.
“Education is not just about earning a certificate but about the people you have journeyed with and the lessons you have learned,” he said. “The challenges you faced were shaping you for the world beyond campus.”
Representing the graduand’s, Eng. David Nuwaturwanaho, a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering student and former Chairperson of the Kabale University Catholic Chapel, thanked the chaplaincy members, parents, and fellow students for their support throughout the academic journey.
He recalled moments when students helped one another during hard times, even sharing food or lending money, acts of kindness that kept them going. He also asked for forgiveness from colleagues they might have wronged during their time at the university.
Kabale University will hold its 10th Graduation Ceremony on Friday, October 31, 2025, presided over by the new Chancellor, Canon Mathew Rukikaire.
A total of 1,669 students will graduate, including 151 Master’s, 1,001 Bachelor’s, 41 Postgraduate Diplomas, 319 Diplomas, 7 PhDs, 1 Certificate, and 149 Higher Education Bridging Certificate recipients.
