Women in Kisoro District have been encouraged to stand up for their rights as a key strategy to curb the rising cases of domestic violence within families.
The call was made on Tuesday during the official opening of a three-day workshop on gender-based violence and women’s rights, held at Nyakabande Sub-county headquarters. The workshop has attracted participants from various sub-counties across Kisoro and is facilitated by the Eastern and Southern Africa Small-Scale Farmers Forum (ESAFF) Uganda, in partnership with La Via Campesina.
Rashida Kabanda, the ESAFF Uganda Communication Officer, said the training specifically targets young women, who she described as fast learners and effective knowledge transmitters within their communities.
