Rubanda District MP Launches “Prosperous Women Rubanda” Initiative to Empower Marginalized Women

RUBANDA – In a dedicated effort to uplift and empower women, Honorable Prossy Akampulira  Mbabazi, the Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament, has launched the “Prosperous Women Rubanda” savings group to enhance the quality of life for women who have been struggling with limited savings and income-generating opportunities in the District.

With a substantial investment of approximately 700 Million, the project sets out to cultivate a skilled workforce within the marginalized female population. This will be accomplished through the implementation of various sustainable projects across 461 villages within Rubanda District.

The initiative operates under the inspiring motto of “Unity in the Villages,” spanning from Kabira to Kagunga, Ruhungu to Kibale, and Bugara to Muziku, among others. The enthusiastic launch took place at Kisiizi Primary School and Katiba Primary School in Bufundi Sub County, Rubanda West County, amidst a vibrant atmosphere filled with cheers and chants from numerous women’s groups.

Honorable Akampulira expressed her personal commitment to actively participate in each group, aiming to encourage every woman in the district to join and experience transformation.

When asked about the motivation behind this impactful endeavor, Hon. Akampulira who doubles as the Commissioner of the 11th Parliament of Uganda shared that her inspiration was drawn from her observations of successful women groups both within the country and during her visits abroad. She believes that such initiatives could revolutionize women’s attitudes towards work and savings.

She emphasized that forming these saving groups represents a crucial step towards enabling Ugandans to leverage government programs like the Parish Development Model Program, aimed at alleviating poverty in households.

Hon. Akampulira recognized that certain women held reservations about uniting with others, but she firmly believes that this initiative would unify women and drive their involvement in income-generating activities.

With an optimism that the initiative will be immensely beneficial to women, the program offers an attractive 2% interest rate, which stands as a solution to the high interest rates charged by other saving groups in the district. The launch of the “Prosperous Women Rubanda” savings group marks a significant stride towards the economic empowerment of women in the District.
