A 30-year-old man has committed suicide following a domestic altercation with his wife in Rubanda District.

The deceased, identified as Selestine Byamukama, was a resident of Nyakaranga Village, Kiyebe Parish, Ruhija Sub-county in Rubanda District.

According to local reports, the incident occurred after Byamukama returned home from a bar and got into a violent altercation with his wife, during which he struck her on the head with a bottle.

Pius Tumuhereze, a resident of the area, stated that Byamukama’s wife sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment. Believing he had killed her, Byamukama reportedly confessed to his mother and expressed his intention to take his own life rather than face potential murder charges.

Family members searched for him throughout the night, only to discover his lifeless body hanging in a nearby tree plantation on Saturday morning.
