RUBANDA: Bruce Balaba Kabaasa, a candidate for the Rubanda West County Member of Parliament seat, has urged Christians to reject religious and tribal politics as the upcoming elections draw near.
Speaking during a church service at St. Mark’s Kaara Church of Uganda in Nshanjare Town Council on Sunday, Kabaasa emphasized the need to prioritize competence and capability when selecting leaders. He cautioned that voting along religious or tribal lines fosters division and undermines development at both the district and national levels.
“Leaders should focus on service delivery as the foundation for development,” Kabaasa stated. He encouraged the congregation to support candidates who genuinely represent their interests and are committed to improving service delivery.
His remarks come amid growing concerns over religious sectarianism, with some politicians and religious leaders reportedly campaigning for candidates based on their faith. Kabaasa warned that such politics sow discord and hinder collective progress.

Kabaasa’s contributions to the community were acknowledged by Kobusingye Annah, overseer of Kaara CDC, who commended him for donating 100 bags of cement toward the construction of the Compassion House.
The issue of sectarianism has drawn criticism from national leaders. President Yoweri Museveni, while campaigning in Kisoro during recent by-elections, condemned the rise of religious politics in the Kigezi Sub-region, calling for unity and a focus on shared goals.
