Rukiga Roads Impassable, Local Leaders Cry Foul

RUKIGA – The Vice Chairperson of Rukiga district, Samuel Niwandinda, has appealed to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to heed the cries of the people and prioritize the completion of all unfinished roads within Rukiga district.

Niwandinda said this while standing in for District Chairperson Honorable Robert Kakwerere, served as the guest of honor at the release event for the Rukiga district P7 mock examination results.

He expressed his concern, emphasizing that the central government should bear the brunt of the blame for awarding contracts without taking local leaders’ perspectives into account.

He went on to highlight specific road issues, such as the one connecting Kabale and Rukiga in the Omurukiri area, which have caused traffic bottlenecks.

He also mentioned the ongoing rehabilitation of the road from Muhanga town to Kisizi, stating that local leaders have repeatedly voiced their concerns to UNRA officials, but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

Samuel’s remarks came in response to a complaint made by Mr. Musimaki Justus Kiseka, the Chairperson of Head Teachers in Rukiga district. Kiseka lamented that incomplete and impassable roads were causing students to face difficulties while traveling to their respective schools.

During the P7 mock results release event, Kiseka, who is also the head teacher of Kantare Primary School, recounted a recent incident where a school bus became stuck on the road near his school, obstructing traffic and inconveniencing other schoolchildren.

In the 2023 mock results released yesterday, St. Crelia and Muhanga Golden Primary School, both private institutions, stood out with outstanding grades among the 73 primary schools, whether government-aided and privately run, registered by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) in Rukiga district.
