Members of the Tooro Parliamentary Forum have pledged to foster unity to fast-track development across the sub-region.
The forum chairperson, who is also the Mwenge North MP, Lawrence Akugizibwe, said the MPs resolved to work together to amplify development concerns affecting their constituencies.
Akugizibwe was speaking on Friday during a fundraising drive for the roofing of St Andrew’s Kihumuro Church of Uganda in Kanyambogo Village, Kakasi Sub-county, Kitagwenda District.
The Bunyangabu District Woman MP, Sarah Kabarokole Adyeeri, and the Kyenjojo District Woman MP, Spellanza Baguma Muhenda, said they expect the forum to provide a platform for jointly addressing development challenges facing Tooro. They noted that similar regional parliamentary caucuses have delivered results in other parts of the country.
The Bunyangabu County MP, Victor Kalenzi, however, urged the public to desist from early political campaigns and allow legislators time to execute their mandate.
The host MP, Robert Mugabe, thanked his colleagues for the solidarity and called for sustained cooperation in pushing for service delivery in the region.
The main celebrant, Canon Lauben Biryomumaisho, the Archdeacon of Ntuntu Archdeaconry, commended Mugabe for embracing collaboration, saying the approach was already bearing fruit.
The chairperson of the development committee at St Andrew’s Kihumuro Church of Uganda, Reany Kanyemera, thanked the legislators for their contribution but said more support is still needed to complete the roofing project.
During the drive, the MPs raised Shs12.3m, bringing the total amount collected so far to Shs13.9m.
