Residents in Buhara Parish, Buhara Sub county in Ndorwa East Constituency, Kabale District, have appealed to their area Member of Parliament, Wilfred Niwagaba, to lobby government support to address persistent water scarcity in their community.

The residents, led by Anthlem Baryarema, LC1 Chairperson of Bwanjojo Village, and Paul Tibemanya, LC1 Chairperson of Kigugo Village, raised the concern on Thursday during MP Niwagaba’s campaign rally held at Kigugo Polling Station in Buhara Subcounty.

Baryarema said the three traditional water sources in the area have completely silted, leaving residents stranded and forcing them to fetch water from wetlands—an option he fears exposes the community to waterborne diseases. Tibemanya echoed the concern, noting that water scarcity remains the biggest challenge in the parish and urging the MP to intervene urgently.

In his response, MP Wilfred Niwagaba cautioned residents living near iron ore deposits against consuming water from unverified sources, warning that it may be contaminated and pose health risks.

He explained that Electoral Commission guidelines currently prohibit candidates from financing projects such as borehole construction during campaign periods. However, he pledged to forward the matter to the relevant authorities to ensure the water problem is addressed.
