KABALE – Western Uganda Region achieved a remarkable feat by securing the third position in the National Mathematics Quiz.
Claire Michelle Kihembo, a 13-year-old primary seven candidate from Bishop Asili Memorial Nursery and Primary School in Kabale District, played a crucial role in this success.
The National Mathematics Contest, organized by the Uganda Mathematical Society with support from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants – CPA, saw 648 pupils from various schools across the country reach the final phase held at Makerere University on Saturday, 22nd July 2023. In this prestigious event, representing Western Uganda, Kihembo stood out among the brightest minds.
James Maganda, the Publicity Secretary of Uganda Mathematics Society, explained that the contest aims to identify future scientists from an early age, update Math teachers on innovative teaching methods, and spot potential future mathematicians.
In response to her outstanding performance, the Head Teacher of Bishop Memorial P.S, Rev. Sr. Margret Tusiime, expressed their lack of surprise as Kihembo has consistently excelled since Primary five.
Kihembo humbly attributed her success to the unwavering support of her parents, Pius Nahabwe Karanzi and Christine Nahabwe, her teachers, and her faith in God.
She was also awestruck by the grandeur of Makerere University. Kihembo shared her aspirations of becoming a surgeon in the future, driven by her determination and passion for the field.
This impressive achievement by Claire Michelle Kihembo and her school highlights the academic talent and potential that lies within Western Uganda Region.
