BUHWEJU: Fortunate Atuhairwe, who achieved an impressive four aggregate score at Primary Seven, has been awarded a four-year scholarship by Letshego Uganda.
In a heartening turn of events this January, social media was flooded with the story of Fortunate Atuhairwe, the top performer at Kyabuharambo Primary School in Buhweju district, Western Uganda. Despite her academic prowess, she faced the daunting challenge of affording her education.
Responding to this plight, Letshego Uganda, through its community-based CSR initiatives, stepped in on Monday to pledge full support for Atuhairwe’s secondary education at Maryhill High School in Mbarara city.
Born to Byaruhanga Leo and Kamugisha Immaculate, hardworking farmers in Buhweju, Fortunate’s aspirations of completing primary education, let alone attending secondary school, seemed out of reach.
Immaculate Kamugisha, Atuhairwe’s mother, expressed profound gratitude to Letshego Uganda for offering her daughter this invaluable educational opportunity. She also extended her appreciation to the media outlets that shared Atuhairwe’s story, which ultimately led to the scholarship.
Dennis Mbika, the Head of Business at Letshego, revealed that the organization was deeply moved upon learning of Atuhairwe’s circumstances. He emphasized that this scholarship initiative underscores Letshego’s unwavering commitment to enhancing lives and fostering education within the communities it serves.
Joseph Kamagara Karemire, the deputy headteacher of Maryhill High School, praised the media for amplifying Fortunate Atuhairwe’s story, which ultimately paved the way for her enrollment at her dream school, courtesy of generous benefactors.
Francis Mwijukye, Buhweju County Member of Parlianment commended Atuhairwe’s parents for their exemplary nurturing, which undoubtedly contributed to her outstanding academic performance at Primary Seven.
