Kasese DEO Advises Flood-Affected Schools to Relocate Students or Shut Boarding Sections

KASESE: The Kasese District Education Officer, Ernest Bwambale Thabugha, has advised the proprietors and head teachers of schools affected by the recent floods from River Nyamwamba to either relocate their learners or close the boarding facilities.

According to Thabugha, this measure would help protect students and minimize their risk of being affected by floods, especially during the night.

He gave this advice during an interview at his office in Rukoki on Tuesday.

Thabugha also emphasized the importance of establishing communication with residents living upstream in the river valley. He suggested that schools could be alerted in advance if the river shows signs of flooding, allowing for timely action.

In addition, the District Education Officer appealed to parents to send their children to school for the third term, which began this morning.

Meanwhile, Cyprus Kyana, Head teacher of Trusted Care Junior School in Kasese Town, reported that his team is working on improving a water channel that runs through the school premises.

He expressed gratitude to the parents for sending their children to school, noting that today’s enrollment was promising.

At Mundongo Primary School in Nyakiyumbu Sub-county, 876 pupils 413 males and 463 females reported for the new term, with 20 teachers present to welcome them.
