KISORO – Kisoro District Council on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution to relocate Kisoro Technical Institute in Nyakabande Sub County to create space for the establishment of the long-anticipated John Kale Institute of Science and Technology (JKIST).

JKIST, a commitment made by the President Museveni in 2017, has faced numerous challenges and remained more of an aspiration than a reality. The Ministry of Education and Sports has been thwarted in its attempts to develop the institute on Rwivovo land due to internal conflicts among local leaders regarding the compensation of landowners.

The motion for the relocation was initiated by Abel Bizimana, the District LC5 Chairman, and received unanimous support from councilors who seconded the motion. Following this, District Speaker Amos Hakiziama subjected the motion to a vote, during which a majority of the councilors expressed their support. Hakiziama emphasized that the unified stance of the councilors is crucial for securing the much-awaited institute, envisioned to be of international caliber.
