Kisoro Municipality to Build Ugx 500M Public Library

KISORO – Kisoro Municipality is embarking on the construction of a state-of-the-art international public library facility, a venture valued at a minimum of 500 million shillings, with the aim of bolstering research efforts and further stimulating the tourism sector within the region.

This exciting development has been unveiled by Mr. Birungi Front, the Principal Community Development Officer of Kisoro Municipality. Mr. Front revealed that the library will not only serve as a repository of knowledge but will also house an advanced ICT center offering free WiFi internet services, a captivating museum, and an international conference hall.

The genesis of this project can be traced back to last year when the initial plans were conceived, subsequently gaining the approval of the municipal council, which has generously allocated land for its realization. The chosen site lies between Kisoro municipality headquarters and Shaza health center three.

Kisoro Municipality currently has a public library, but its services have been hampered by spatial limitations and a dearth of computers, as pointed out by Mr. Birungi. In an exclusive interview with Our Reporter, he disclosed that the municipality recently received a visit from Mr. Adonia Katungisa, the Director of the National Library of Uganda, who pledged and delivered 10 computers. Additionally, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has committed to providing free and unrestricted WiFi access throughout the year.

Mr. Birungi highlighted the profound impact this facility will have on research activities, both present and historical, owing to the inclusion of a museum and high-speed internet access and the expansive conference hall will enable the hosting of large public gatherings.
