The Chairman of the Board of Governors of Mbarara High School, Prof. William Bazeyo, has dismissed allegations of the sale or lease of the school playground.

Prof. Bazeyo addressed concerns circulating on social media and among the school community, clarifying that no discussions have taken place regarding selling or leasing the school’s pitch.

He emphasized that the board and church leadership remain committed to preserving the land for the school’s use.

“I apologize for not responding earlier, but I needed to verify information on the ground rather than rely on hearsay,” Prof. Bazeyo said. “It is unfortunate that some individuals have been hurt, abused, or called names over this matter. However, patience and self-control are essential when dealing with communities and leadership responsibilities.”

He explained that the board was requested by the church to meet with officials responsible for land development and strategy after seeking to expand parking for the school bus.

During the meeting, the board learned that Mbarara High School (MHS) had been allocated a total of 91.4 acres under the church’s master plan, well beyond the area currently occupied by the school. The expansion is meant to accommodate future growth, including development behind Nairobi House for additional facilities.

Prof. Bazeyo also clarified that while the church is planning developments on other portions of its land, these plans do not affect Mbarara High School.

“The school’s land remains untouched, and we plan to enclose it with a perimeter fence for student security. The church leadership has approved this,” he said.

He further revealed that the board has approached the President for assistance in funding the perimeter fencing and other projects, with a positive response received. The school is now finalizing a master plan, which will soon be shared with stakeholders for feedback.

Regarding the allegations about the sale or lease of the school pitch, Prof. Bazeyo said: “I have met with the church leadership, and they confirmed that, as of now, the pitch has neither been sold nor are there discussions to lease it. The board would not have engaged in such discussions without formal notice.”

He urged the school community to avoid spreading misinformation and encouraged everyone to work together to build MHS into a better institution for future generations. “We found MHS a great school, and we want to make it even better for those who come after us,” he said.
