Jubilation filled the air at Parental Care Nursery and Primary School in Bushenyi District after the school emerged victorious over Namagungo Boarding Primary School–Kitende in the finals of the fourth edition of the National Quiz Championship.
The competition was held over the weekend at Mali Studios in Bweyogerere, Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District.
“The championship is more than just a competition; it’s a platform for nurturing patriotism and leadership among young people,” said Kakuru Makyetero, the school’s trainer. “I thank the pupils for their dedication and the school for its unwavering support. Winning is not easy, we must double our efforts, as many will now target us.”
Parental Care’s path to the trophy included a key victory over defending champions St. Francis Buddo in the quarterfinals.
Trevor Yebazamukama, the school director, attributed the win to the students’ strong debating skills and the school’s commitment to holistic education.
“Beyond academics, we emphasize co-curricular activities, which continue to produce impactful results,” he said.
Other schools that participated in the championship included Bishop Cipriano Kihangire, Mbarara Junior, Samaritan Primary School, and Brigton Junior Bweyogerere, among others.
Founded in 1988 as a nursery school in Bushenyi Town, Parental Care has grown into a leading institution, consistently excelling in national and international competitions.
In 2023, it represented Uganda at the All-Africa Spelling Bee in Blantyre, Malawi.
