RUBANDA: The School Management of St. George Kibuzigye Secondary School in Rubanda District has awarded 2023 UCE top Performers.

The event unfolded amidst the serene backdrop of the school grounds in Rwarugambwa Cell, Kibuzigye Ward, and Hamuhambo Town Council on Thursday.

Despite the geographical challenges posed by its remote location, the academic prowess of St. George’s Kibuzigye S.S shone brightly. Out of the 33 students who undertook the Senior Four Final exams, an impressive six achieved the remarkable feat of securing a division one score. Additionally, 10 students attained division two, with a staggering 14 distinctions collectively earned by the cohort. Remarkably, every single student successfully qualified for admission to A’level studies, marking a significant milestone for the school community.

Among the distinguished division one achievers were three male and three female students, namely Tomson Tumwesigyire, Kukundakwe Belina, Orikira Edwin, Arinaitwe Rebecca, Gumoshabe Bornventure, and Ainamasiko Tarasisio. This outstanding performance marked a substantial improvement from the previous academic year, where the school boasted three students in Division one.

Addressing the gathering, the head teacher of St. George’s Kibuzigye Secondary School, Monday Fidelis, lauded the students’ prowess in the sciences, highlighting outstanding achievements in subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. He proudly announced the commencement of A’level studies at the school, catering to both arts and sciences, marking a significant milestone since its establishment in 1995.

“I want to inform you, parents, that we have opened the Advanced level, and we have the capacity in both human resources and facilities to accommodate students pursuing both Arts and Sciences,” he declared.

Chairperson of the Board of Governors, Mr. Arinaitwe Julius Byarugaba, issued a challenge to the S.4 leavers, urging them to uphold the standard of excellence as they progress to A’level studies and beyond. He encouraged them to proudly represent St. George’s Kibuzigye S.S in all their future endeavors, echoing the school’s commitment to nurturing outstanding individuals across various professions.

Mr. Tumwesigyire Wilberforce, speaking on behalf of the parents, expressed gratitude to the school management for their dedication and commitment to academic excellence. He urged the upcoming S.4 class to emulate the outstanding performance of their predecessors and strive for even greater success in the forthcoming 2024 final exams.

St. George’s S.S Kibuzigye stands as a testament to resilience and perseverance. Established by the Kabale Roman Catholic Diocese in 1995, the school has overcome numerous obstacles, including its remote location, to emerge as a beacon of educational excellence in Rubanda District.

Thanks to the concerted efforts of local political leaders, notably Rubanda East Mp Henry Musasizi, who also serves as State Minister of Finance, the school has witnessed remarkable progress. In 2018, they obtained a UNEB Centre Number, putting an end to the practice of sending S.4 candidates to distant schools for their final exams.

Recent government initiatives, including the allocation of up to Shs. 2.42 Billion for the construction of new structures, signify a promising future for St. George’s S.S Kibuzigye. Minister Musasizi, during the launch of the construction works last August, outlined plans for the official takeover of the school as the first seed secondary school in Hamuhambo Town Council, Rubanda District. This transition will bring additional benefits, including enrollment of teachers on the Government payroll and the provision of essential facilities such as fully-fledged science and computer laboratories.

The journey of St. George’s S.S Kibuzigye is a testament to the transformative power of education and the unwavering commitment of its stakeholders to nurture the next generation of leaders and scholars.
