RUKUNGIRI: Immaculate Heart Girls’ School in Nyakibale, Rukungiri District, has bid a heartfelt farewell to Sr. Gladyce Kachope, who has dedicated 18 years to elevating the school’s standards as head Mistress. She has been succeeded by Sr. Sabina Tumusiime, who now takes on the leadership role.
The farewell ceremony took place on Sunday at the school premises in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality. The event was not only a tribute to Sr. Kachope’s remarkable service but also a celebration of the school’s outstanding performance in the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.
The occasion was presided over by Msgr. Dr. John Sunday Vianney, the Vicar of Kabale Diocese, who urged school authorities to prioritize both quality education and physical development. He commended Sr. Kachope for fostering academic and spiritual excellence among students during her tenure.
In her remarks, the incoming Head Mistress, Sr. Sabina Tumusiime, acknowledged her predecessor’s contributions, including the improvement of school infrastructure, the acquisition of land for agricultural projects, and the establishment of food security initiatives such as banana plantations and cattle farming. She highlighted the need for financial support to complete ongoing projects, including the construction of a new administration block.

The vice chairperson of the school’s Board of Governors, Betty Muzanira also the former Woman Member of Parliament for Rukungiri District encouraged students to focus on their studies. She assured them that the Board of Governors would continue to support Sr. Tumusiime in her leadership.
Juliet Muzoora, the Commissioner for Secondary School Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports, praised Sr. Kachope for her contributions to infrastructure development, increased student enrollment, and academic excellence. She encouraged Sr. Tumusiime to build on her predecessor’s legacy and commended the school’s foundation body for ensuring a smooth leadership transition.
