St. Maria Goretti Senior Secondary School in Kabale District is seeking to raise nearly Shs 50 million to construct a permanent two-classroom block aimed at addressing the growing demand for learning space, the school’s Head Teacher, Athanasius Tukesiga, has revealed.

Tukesiga made the appeal on Saturday during a thanksgiving Mass held at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral as St. Maria Goretti Senior Secondary School and its sister institution, St. Maria Goretti Nursery and Preparatory School, celebrated the Feast Day of their patron saint, St. Maria Goretti.

Tukesiga explained that the school had previously established temporary classrooms to cope with increasing enrolment, particularly at A-Level, where students pursue a variety of subject combinations that require several classrooms to operate simultaneously.

“The temporary structure became necessary because of the increasing number of learners and the many subjects offered at A-Level. Students study different subject combinations at the same time, creating a need for additional classrooms,” Tukesiga said.

He noted that the school now plans to replace the temporary facility with a permanent classroom block as part of its commitment to improving infrastructure and eliminating temporary structures within the school. Construction is expected to commence in September, with the new block anticipated to reduce congestion, provide a more conducive learning environment and support the school’s long-term development.
