President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Ugandans to strengthen accountability, protect the environment, and improve trade discipline as key pillars for sustained national development, in his address to the nation on July 4, 2026.

Delivering his message after meetings with the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda, Museveni highlighted concerns raised about justice, human rights, trade regulation, and wetland conservation, saying Uganda must safeguard its gains in peace, stability, and economic growth.

The President emphasized the importance of accountability in the justice system, warning against corruption, illegal practices, and abuse of legal processes. He said Uganda’s long-term stability depends on ensuring that both citizens and institutions uphold the rule of law without impunity.

On economic order, Museveni called for the formalization of small-scale trade, arguing that unregulated street vending undermines tax collection, public health, and urban planning.
