NTUNGAMO – Standard College-Ntungamo, a mixed boarding secondary school in Ntungamo district, western Uganda, celebrated its 20th Founders Day on July 8th, 2023, by recognizing the outstanding achievements of two students.
Tayebwa Cephas, who scored 8 aggregates in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams, and Byamukama Derrick, who achieved 20 points in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams last year, were each awarded 2 million Ugandan shillings.
The event, held at the school premises in Ntungamo Municipality, was graced by Mr. Beebwa Baruch Rwabutururuma, a member of the Founders and directors, who also served as the guest of honor.
In his speech, Mr. Beebwa emphasized the importance of recognizing and rewarding the best performers as a means to motivate other students to strive for excellence.
He expressed the school’s vision of producing well-rounded individuals who not only seek employment but also possess the skills to undertake their own projects and secure a livelihood in the future.
Hon. Kamayangi Gloria, an alumna of Standard College-Ntungamo and an aspiring Ntungamo district Women Member of Parliament, addressed the students, encouraging them to pursue their dreams beyond their time at the school.
She highlighted the achievements of former students who are making significant contributions to the country.
Hon. Kamayangi, who also serves as the Clerk Assistant Parliament of Uganda, expressed her gratitude to the teachers for their dedication in shaping the students into valuable members of society and urged parents to continue supporting their children’s education.
The head teacher of Standard College-Ntungamo, Mr. Luyimbazi Boaz, emphasized the school’s commitment to excellence and acknowledged the significant progress made based on the outstanding performances of students in previous years at both the O Level and A Level.
Mr. Luyimbazi shared the results of the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams in 2022, revealing that out of the 255 students who took the exams, 142 achieved the first grade, with one student scoring 8 aggregates, 99 students achieving the second grade, and 14 students achieving the third grade.
He also mentioned that in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams, a student obtained 20 points, and many other students who completed S6 last year have gained admission to higher learning institutions on private sponsorship, particularly universities.
Since its establishment in 2004 with an initial enrollment of 100 students in S1, S2, and S5, Standard College-Ntungamo has grown significantly.
As of 2023, the school has 1,559 students (599 females and 960 males) from S.1 to S.6 and offers both Ordinary and Advanced levels of education.
The school’s continued success is attributed to its commitment to academic excellence and the development of well-rounded individuals.
