Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle after graduating with a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Cavendish University, Bobi Wine shared that these detractors did everything in their power to prevent him from graduating.

Bobi Wine disclosed that NCHE officials visited the university and demanded extensive documentation regarding his studies, including his application form, admission records, class attendance, written exams, coursework from all the years, and tuition payment records.

“It was only after a very detailed and intense investigation that I was cleared to graduate today,” Bobi Wine stated.

He said “I don’t know if any other Ugandan student has ever been subjected to this level of scrutiny. I’m sure the regime and those eager to please it are disappointed to see me in this gown today.”

In August 2016, after much procrastination, Bobi Wine attended his first law lecture at the International University of East Africa (IUEA). Seven years later, he has proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Cavendish University.

Reflecting on his journey, he expressed deep gratitude to his friends and family for their unwavering support and encouragement.

He gave special thanks to Sylver Kyagulanyi, who motivated him through both words and actions.

“Dear Sylver Kyagulanyi, we discussed the idea of attending law school over 20 years ago while still in the MDD department at Makerere. You continued to encourage me, even when I dragged my feet for a few years. You led by example and achieved this goal, and today, I have also done it,” Bobi Wine said.

He also thanked his political assistant, Don Najja Sharif, saying, “Dear Don Najja Sharif, this course brought us together, and we discovered that we shared much more than just being law students; we share a passion for freedom and justice. I owe you a great debt of gratitude for your assistance throughout my years in law school.”

Additionally, Bobi Wine expressed his appreciation to the NUP Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, for standing by him throughout his academic journey.

“Dear David Lewis Rubongoya, from the first Constitutional Law lecture you conducted in 2016 at IUEA, I knew you would be a comrade. It was your idea to transfer from IUEA, which was not fully accredited to teach law at the time, to Cavendish University, which was already accredited. This decision helped avoid future problems regarding technicalities, and I’m glad I listened. Thank you for standing by me throughout the course.” He said.

On a special note, he applauded his wife, Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi, for her constant encouragement and support.

He added “Dear Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi, I’m certain I wouldn’t have completed this course without your sometimes inconvenient push. Many times I felt like giving up, but you never allowed me to leave the mission incomplete. Only you know how many times I came close to giving up. Thank you for always keeping me encouraged and nourished. Now I know that with your encouragement, nothing is too hard to achieve. Thank you, my love.”

Bobi Wine also expressed his gratitude to his teachers and fellow students, noting that even the lecturers who made it difficult for him to graduate last year ultimately helped him secure a legitimate qualification.

“To those who always mocked my academic qualifications, you pushed me to pursue this course. Thank you, and I hope you’ll now find something better to talk about. This journey was not without challenges. I was supposed to graduate last year but was not allowed to due to missing a few lectures in one course unit. I was required to re-attend that course unit for another semester.” He said.

He continued, “I took on the new challenge with grace and ended up waiting a full year to graduate. Many of my classmates graduated last year or even earlier.”

Lastly, Bobi Wine extended his appreciation to the Ghetto People who have always challenged him to be his best.

“Over the past two decades, you have kept me on tenterhooks to be the best version of myself and to give my best energy to everything I do because I know that by doing things right, I am inspiring millions of others. Let today inspire you to know that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams and achieve them.” He said.
