MUKONO – At the 24th graduation ceremony for Uganda Christian University in Mukono Municipality, a total of 1,006 students were honored, signifying a momentous occasion for both the institution and its graduates.
Presided over by the Most Rev Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and the University Chancellor, the event was filled with pride and enthusiasm.
A notable achievement during the ceremony was the conferral of first-class degrees upon 29 graduands, among whom were 18 accomplished females and 11 equally outstanding males.
Of these distinguished graduates, Eyob Yohana Ghebrekristos, who pursued a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, was recognized as the overall best student, achieving a remarkable CGPA of 4.71.
Addressing the gathering, Archbishop Kaziimba urged the graduates to take their knowledge and skills to their respective communities and the world, leaving a positive impact.
He emphasized the importance of upholding values such as servanthood, Christ-centeredness, stewardship, diligence, and integrity, encouraging the students to live by these principles as they embark on their new journeys.
The ceremony also marked a momentous occasion for Uganda Christian University as it celebrated the graduation of its pioneer students from the Medicine and Dentistry programs. Archbishop Kaziimba expressed his delight over this achievement, highlighting the university’s dedication to excellence in healthcare education.
Looking to the future, Kaziimba expressed optimism about remarkable progress in infrastructural development across the university’s various colleges and campuses. He recognized the integral role this development plays in the holistic growth and development of the students, having observed its impact during his pastoral visits.
The Archbishop called upon the Church of Uganda Dioceses, partners, and friends to support Uganda Christian University through UCU-Sunday, an annual event that takes place on the last Sunday of September.
The occasion is designed to raise awareness about the university’s crucial role in shaping the minds and hearts of its students and the wider community.
During the ceremony, Kaziimba extended his heartfelt congratulations to University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, on his election to the Board of Directors of the Hanseatic League of Universities. This recognition reflects Prof. Mushengyezi’s exceptional leadership and dedication to the university’s growth and academic excellence.
The Archbishop also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the day’s Guest of Honour, Rt Rev Dr. Dunstan K. Bukenya, in establishing the university. He praised Bukenya’s wise counsel, experience, and motivation, acknowledging him as the institution’s first University Secretary.
In concluding his address, Kaziimba celebrated the exceptional achievements of the university staff, recognizing their outstanding contributions to research, teaching, and service. Their commitment has further strengthened the university’s reputation as a center of excellence in the heart of Africa.
The 24th graduation ceremony of Uganda Christian University was indeed a testament to the institution’s dedication to academic excellence, healthcare education, and holistic student development.
