KISORO: Akifeza Grace Ngabirano, who was recently defeated in the Kisoro Woman MP primaries for the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has announced her decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming by-election.
Rose Kabagyeni, Senior Presidential Advisor on Agriculture, won the NRM primaries with 39,941 votes, while Akifeza finished close behind with 39,197 votes.

In a statement to her supporters and the Kisoro community, Akifeza vowed to run as an independent, emphasizing her commitment to challenging what she described as an unjust result.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission, nominations for the District Woman Representative to Parliament for Kisoro District, along with other Local Government Councils by-elections, will begin tomorrow (Wednesday), October 30, and run until Thursday, October 31, 2024.
The exercise will take place at the District Council Hall in Kisoro District, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, urged all aspiring candidates to familiarize themselves with the nomination requirements for each position as outlined in the Commission’s guidelines.
“Aspiring candidates can collect copies of the nomination forms and guidelines from the Office of the District Election Administrator in Kisoro District,” he added.
