Milton Kwesiga, the Director of the African Disaster Reduction Research and Emergency Mission (ADRREM), has officially declared his intention to contest as an independent candidate for the Ndorwa County East parliamentary seat in the forthcoming general elections.

Addressing journalists at his residence in Nyarwangara, Muyebe Parish, Buhara Sub-County, Kabale District on Saturday, Kwesiga cited rampant corruption, internal party intrigue, and widespread voter bribery within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) as the main reasons behind his decision to run independently.

He accused rival candidates in the NRM primaries of engaging in voter bribery, offering sums ranging from Shs 10,000 to Shs 30,000, practices he condemned as deeply harmful to the democratic process.

Kwesiga emphasized that his withdrawal from the party primaries was in line with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s public stance against electoral malpractice, particularly voter bribery.

“The President has consistently called for integrity and fairness in elections,” he said, “and I am heeding that call by distancing myself from a process tainted by corruption.”

Appealing to voters in Ndorwa East, Kwesiga urged constituents to reject money-influenced politics and instead support candidates based on merit, vision, and a proven commitment to service.
