The race for the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) continues to heat up, with Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anitah Annet Among stepping up her campaign efforts in South Western Uganda.
Although unable to campaign physically, Speaker Among delegated Sheema Municipality MP Dicksons Kateshumbwa, who also serves as her campaign coordinator to meet NRM delegates from Rukungiri District.
The meeting was held at Riverside Hotel in Rukungiri Municipality. Speaker Among is contesting for the position against the incumbent, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.
During the engagement with delegates, Rukungiri District NRM Youth Chairperson, Levi Tumukunde, popularly known as Napoleon, demanded a direct interface with Speaker Among.
He argued that the youth in Rukungiri have long been sidelined, largely due to the district’s strong opposition presence.
Tumukunde noted that this political dynamic has deprived Rukungiri’s youth of opportunities readily accessible in districts like those in the Kigezi and Ankole sub-regions, where NRM support is stronger and youth leadership is well integrated.
He urged Speaker Among and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to prioritize Rukungiri in youth-centered projects and national development programs.
“Such support will not only empower the youth and strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, but also serve as a powerful statement to those still in the opposition that the NRM delivers tangible results and is committed to inclusive development,” Tumukunde emphasized.
