Minister of State for Finance (General Duties), Henry Musasizi, has officially declared his intention to contest for re-election as the Member of Parliament for Rubanda East County in the upcoming 2026 general election.

On Wednesday, Minister Musasizi picked up nomination forms from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, marking the formal launch of his bid to retain the seat under the NRM ticket.

“I have officially picked nomination forms from the NRM Electoral Commission, signaling my bid for re-election on the NRM ticket in the 2026 general election,” Minister Musasizi posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The NRM Electoral Commission began registering prospective candidates on Monday across various parliamentary constituencies ahead of the 2026 elections.

Minister Musasizi, who is seeking a fourth term as MP for Rubanda East, pledged to build on his past achievements and ensure continued development for his constituents.

Currently serving his third consecutive term since first being elected in 2011, Musasizi also serves as the NRM District Chairman for Rubanda. His political journey, he says, has been driven more by personal conviction than political patronage.

“I was inspired by a desire to change my society, not by any individual. I was looking for a platform to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, especially the poor,” Musasizi told The Source Reports in an interview.

That desire has seen him use his background in accounting to deliver visible development results in Rubanda East. Before joining politics, Musasizi worked with Caritas Kabale and the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF).

He says the transition from managing finances in development organizations to national politics has come with both challenges and opportunities.

“In the past, I was focused on managing field finances and monitoring projects. In Parliament, it’s different. You must ensure accountability, play an oversight role, and represent your people effectively,” he explained.

Since taking office, Minister Musasizi has focused on improving service delivery, particularly in areas such as road infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

“Most of the goals we set for the constituency have been achieved. We’re now moving toward another set of achievements,” he said, expressing cautious optimism.

Minister Musasizi acknowledges that political life is not without its difficulties.

“All hasn’t been good. But I’m grateful to the people of Rubanda East who have continued to give me an opportunity to make a contribution to my country,” he added.

That contribution has expanded to national fiscal policy. Appointed Minister of State for Finance (General Duties) in 2021, Musasizi says the appointment was both unexpected and humbling.

“I didn’t know the president personally until I became an MP. So to be trusted and placed in a ministry that aligns with my profession, it’s something I’m grateful for. I’m passionate about what I do.”

At the Finance Ministry, he plays a central role in coordinating planning and supporting policy implementation across government sectors.

Asked how he manages the pressures of his role, Musasizi responded, “Much of the work passes through Cabinet. Even when there are challenges, our successes are not individual, they come through teamwork from both Cabinet and Parliament.”

Now 14 years into public service, Musasizi is described by leaders in the Kigezi sub-region as a “steady hand” and “multipurpose,” in tune with the diverse needs of his constituents.

Political analyst Dr. John Paul Kasujja calls him “one of the best performers in the region,” particularly for his consistent efforts in defending and strengthening the Finance Ministry during tough budget negotiations.

Though he keeps a relatively low profile, Musasizi’s journey from village accountant to Cabinet minister reflects a career built on purpose, discipline, and a quiet resolve to ensure that Rubanda East is not left behind.
