Tumuramye Genensio was on Wednesday officially nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest for the Kashongi County parliamentary seat in Kiruhura District in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
Hundreds of supporters escorted Tumuramye to the Electoral Commission offices to witness his nomination, marking his formal return to the race after setbacks in the 2021 general elections.
“The decision to stand again was a response to the pleas of the people of Kashongi, who felt that I still had unfinished work to accomplish,” Tumuramye said shortly after his nomination.
He reaffirmed his commitment to champion community-based initiatives, accountability, and socio-economic transformation, the causes that defined his previous term in Parliament from 2016 to 2021.
As the NRM flag bearer for Kashongi County, Tumuramye emphasized that his loyalty remains with the people he seeks to serve.
“My duty to the people of Kashongi is to finish what we started together,” he said.
Tumuramye also highlighted the pressing challenges facing the constituency, including poor road networks, limited electricity coverage, inadequate schools, and insufficient access to clean water—issues he pledged to address once re-elected.
He noted progress in coffee farming, a sector he has actively promoted through the distribution of coffee seedlings across the county.
“Coffee growing has expanded rapidly because of our efforts to supply seedlings throughout the county. This has boosted the local economy, although some challenges still remain,” he added.
Kashongi County comprises 106 villages, 13 parishes, and 2 sub-counties. Tumuramye said his mission is to ensure that all these areas benefit from inclusive and sustainable development initiatives.
