Over 500 Boda Boda riders in Rukungiri District are demanding payment for services they claim to have rendered to Gen. Henry Tumukunde’s campaign team during his nomination as the NRM flag bearer for Rukungiri Municipality.
The riders allege that they were each promised Shs 30,000 as facilitation for participating in Tumukunde’s nomination convoy on October 23, which included escorting him from Rukungiri town to the district headquarters and later to Nyamayenje Playground in Southern Division for a rally.
According to the riders, they were registered by Tumukunde’s mobilization team before the event, with assurances that payment would be made at the end of the day.
However, after hours of riding through several parts of the municipality, including Rwentondo, Karangaro, Kafunda, and Kitimba and even enduring heavy rain, they claim they received only lunch and no financial compensation.
Emmanuel Twesigomwe (popularly known as Emmy) from Karera Stage, Dickson Nabimara (Kirarwire) and Derrick Muhumuza from Rwentondo Stage expressed disappointment, saying they used their own fuel expecting reimbursement that never came.
