The Anti-Corruption Court has granted Uganda’s Consul General in Mombasa, Kenya, Ambassador Herbert Kiguli, cash bail of Shs10 million after he presented substantial sureties.
The court ordered his sureties to execute non-cash bonds worth Shs300 million and ensure that he returns to court on November 11, 2026, when the case will come up for mention.
Ambassador Kiguli, 59, was arrested on October 5 by the Inspectorate of Government (IG) and subsequently remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations of causing a financial loss of Shs494.1 million to the government.
Prosecution alleges that between November 9 and 10, 2020, while serving as Commissioner for Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries in Entebbe, Ambassador Kiguli irregularly originated and signed five requisitions totalling Shs614.768 million on behalf of the principal of Bukalasa Agricultural College.
According to the prosecution, Ambassador Kiguli knew or had reason to believe that his actions would cause financial loss to the government.
The prosecution further alleges that his actions resulted in a loss of Shs494.097 million and were prejudicial to the interests of his employer, the Government of Uganda.
Ambassador Kiguli will return to the Anti-Corruption Court on November 11 for mention of the case.
